Many site technology vendors are adding AI, but shortcuts can create security risks. Vendors often rely on “bolt-on” services where data must leave the system, or open site platforms up to third party applications using broad, unmonitored service accounts.

Veeva AI is fundamentally different. AI is built inside of SiteVault. Sensitive site data never leaves the secure SiteVault tenet, and isn’t used to train external models. Every action is logged directly to SiteVault’s GxP-compliant, 21 CFR Part 11 audit trail.

Outside the application. Requires data to be sent to separate AI service, or an external AI app connected via API.

Where data goes

Data must be sent out of the application to the AI and returned. Every hop is a potential leak.

Data never leaves SiteVault. All processing occurs strictly within the secure tenant boundary.

Permission model

Typically uses a single shared service account with broad access. The AI often has broader access than the user and the UI filters what to show.

Permission inheritance. The agent acts on behalf of the user who invoked it and inherits that user’s exact SiteVault permissions, including profile, role, document role, object role, field-level security, and lifecycle state. If the user cannot see it, the agent cannot see it.

Audit trail

Logs live separately in the AI system. May or may not be Part 11 compliant, and rarely inspected by sponsors.

Same immutable, Part 11 audit trail as every other SiteVault action, with full trace visibility into the agent's reasoning and tool use.

Model training on your data

Depends on each vendor's policy and each subprocessor's policy. Hard for the site to verify or enforce.

Never. Model training on customer data is technically and blocked at the infrastructure level.
